Cahors Wines We've Tried and Tasted!

Just a few informal musings about some of the wines we've tasted and enjoyed:

Chateau Chambert

Orphée
A fabulous wine - one of our very favourite Cahors wines. It must be opened well in advance to fully develop its flavours - about 24 hours is best so you need to plan this tasting event n advance, but well worth waiting for!
Goes well with everything because we love it! But fantastic with our favourite local fillet of beef or the rib roast we had on Christmas Eve!
We drank a 2001 but this wine can be kept for 20 years.

100% Malbec Prestige wine.
Vines: 35 years old and more.
Aged in French oak barrels for 18 months.
Around 24 EUR a bottle

Château de Chambert
Very concentrated without being heavy - nice with a rich beef casserole.
85% Malbec, 15% Merlot
Details (pdf)

Rogomme (only available at the chateau)
Fortified dessert wine
Rogomme with Rocamadour cheese or very dark chocolate - fantastic.
Annual Production: 4 000 bottles. Good for 20 years and more!
100 % Malbec
Aged in French oak barrels for 18 months

Clos Triguedina

Prince Probus
Beautiful wine for special occasions - deserves to be enjoyed with venison, wild boar or a gorgeous game pie!
100% Malbec Prestige wine.
Old vines dating back more than half a century, with the best exposure in the vineyard.

Domaine de Chantelle

A small family business that truly welcomes you and shows off their small working chateau with passion and pride.

La Passion
Delicious, excellent wine that gives some more prestigious chateaux stiff competition.
We drank this on Christmas day with our roast goose stuffed with pork, prunes and walnuts - fabulous!
100% Malbec Prestige wine.
Aged in French oak barrels for 12 months.
Absolute bargain at around 12 eur a bottle (direct from chateau)

Rosé de Chantelle
Lovely juicy, fruity summer wine - great as an aperitif or with fish.
